NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL (NMC)

REGISTRATION FOR FILIPINO NURSES in order to work as a nurse or midwife in the UK you must apply to join the register of Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

 Nursing and Midwifery Council is the regulating body of nurses and midwives in the United Kingdom. They have set strict rules and standards for nurses that is why you have to make sure you have the following requirements before you register.

Education Requirement:

You must have completed 10 years of school education before starting your post-secondary education in nursing. (a degree or diploma)    

Practice Requirement:  

Before a applying for the role within the UK, you must have practiced as a registered nurse for at least 12 months (full or part-time equivalent). You must also able to show evidence that you have worked as a nurse 450 hours or more within the last three years

Language Requirement: 

English Language Requirements:

 (IELTS band score of at least 7 in each area) as part of the application.

1. How to Acquire the IELTS CERTIFICATE

According to NMC, candidates must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English. If you qualified as a nurse in the UK you will need to provide evidence of English language competence.

Nursing and Midwife Council accept an IELTS Academic examination certificate that confirms the applicant achieved:

• An overall score of at least 7
• At last 6.5 in writing section and at least 7 in the reading and speaking sections.

Combining IELTS test scores

You can achieve the required mark across two test sittings if:

• If you took first and second rests within six months
• The result your first test in listening is 7, 6.5 in listening, 6.5 in writing and 7 in speaking
• Your second test must have a result of 7 both in reading and writing to be able to combine both test result.

Example of Combined IELTS scores:

This combination would be accepted. It means that you are ready to proceed to the next step. But you must wait for your IELTS Test Report Form via mail because you will need the TRF number for verification purposes.

1. Eligibility Assessment

The eligibility assessment would be the next stage. Nurses who have trained outside the EU/EEA and are applying as a nurse in the UK must complete an online self-assessment, which will confirm if you are eligible to apply.

You need to register in the Overseas Registration Applications.

1. In order to begin the process, you must first, create an account in NMC and activate it by clicking the link they will send you on your email address. (Take note, do not create a multiple account upon registering because it may cause problem during the application process).
2. After creating your account log-in and fill out the Personal Information and Eligibility Tabs. (Note: This where you put the IELTS TRF code).
3. NMC will very your eligibility, then they will send you an email that indicates you passed the eligibility stage of registration. The letter they will send to you will also reflect on your NMC account.
4. Then, you have to wait for the email of Pearson Vue your Authorization To Test (ATT) and your Pearson Vue Web Account Confirmation that contains your Username and Temporary Password. (Note: you don’t need to create a Pearson Vue Account).

• Scheduling your NMC-CBT ( Competence Test- Part II)

1. After you received your web account details from Pearson Vue, go to Pearson Vue website look for “Test taker menu”, then click Schedule an Exam
2. Then on the input box type “NMC” and wait for the Nursing and Midwifery Council page to appear then click it.
3. Once you are the NMC page, read carefully and understand the overview of registration process and instructions on how to book the examination. Then go and click the sign–in which you will see on the upper right of the page. Enter your username and temporary password. (Note: you will be asked to change your password and create a security question).
4. Upon logging in, click your pre-approved exam. Example: RN1: Registered Nurse-Adult.
5. Then, you will be asked to choose for a testing center and the test date.

1. After reviewing the Test Appointment and the Location, you may now pay for the exam.

After the exam, you may check the result in Pearson Vue website, which will be posted after an hour. Click “Exam History” which is under “My Account”. (www.nmc.org.uk)

Reminders:

1. Please double check your details in your NMC account and make sure that it is the same as the details in your passport.
2. Bring your passport during the exam.
3. Be at the Test Center 30 minutes before your schedule exam.
4. Maximize the time given during the exam and review your answers.
5. Do not assume or over-analyze the question, answer what is asked.
