Computer Based Test
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Test of Competence Part 1 exam is a computer based test (CBT) consisting of 120 Multiple Choice test of theoretical practice-based knowledge done at a Pearson Vue test center for 4 hours. NMC CBT is intended for nurses trained outside the AU (European Union) and EEA (European Economic Area) seeking employment as a nurse in the UK.
The test is divided into two parts and measures candidates against current UK pre-registration education. It assesses essential professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for safe and effective nursing and midwifery practice in the UK.
The test of competence requires nurses to complete an online application process. Professional candidates can register on NMC website. (Click here) www.nmc.org.uk
A candidate passes or fail the CBT is determined by both critical questions and an overall pass mark. A candidate must answer 90 percent of critical questions correctly.
